Farewell laptop…

Wednesday 1st April 2020

Pinch, punch, first of the month! This morning, the gas and electricity readings needed to be taken, followed by breakfast and Animal Crossing (we have a ramp now!); then it was down to work. I had some planning and file management to do, and for warp-girl; designing Easter eggs. This took a little longer than it should have done after I noticed the really cool symmetry tool on the drawing programme that warp-girl was using and decided it was Mummy’s turn for five minutes… As it was a really sunny day, we then spent some time in the garden blowing bubbles and shooting water pistols. All in all, a nice day.

Dismantled Laptop
Thank you for your years of service, faithful laptop.

This morning warp-girl’s laptop would not turn on. I pressed the button, the light came on and it whirred to life, only to power down after about three seconds-oh dear. After jef had also check it, we resigned ourselves to the fact that this sort of thing sometimes happens to laptops, especially when they are almost 11 years old… So while jef set about dismantling it – we thought it would be fun to make another magnet out of the processer and recycle the plastic bits – warp-girl and I set about doing today’s work (shape and space) without a computer. After a bit of thinking, we had fun posing in different shapes and exploring positional language using the farm animals. Later on, with the laptop in pieces, we contemplated how we were going to access the online work now that we were a computer down. warp-girl meanwhile, having commandeered the keyboard from the dismantled laptop, was happily bending it and banging the keys pretending to do work. It baffled me that she was having more fun with the broken keyboard than she did when it was working…but then again, I was pretty excited at the prospect of a new processor magnet…
