Saturday 21st March 2020
When we woke up on Saturday, it was kind of strange to think that none of us would be going about our business as normal for a while. With the prospect of staying in for the forseeable looming, Animal Crossing: New Horizons couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Where we would usually be planning a weekend of retro game hunting, we were now checking in with Dodo Airlines and heading out on our Deserted Island Getaway Package. Suddenly the idea of staying in didn’t seem all that bad now that there were new trees to shake and new bugs to catch!
Sunday 22nd March 2020
Mother’s Day (in the UK). I had a card and warp-girl gave me some lovely school-made flowers, along with some Donkey Kong goodies. Hooray! After some more Animal Crossing I headed out for an essential food shop. There was still no toilet roll in the supermarket, which was a problem as a family member had asked me to pick some up. I did manage to find a small amount in another smaller shop near by, but purchase was limited to one pack per customer. On the way back to the car it was like a scene from Dawn of the Dead; I was Roger, moving swiftly, trying to remain unseen and the other shoppers were the zombies, baying for blood and guts…or in this case, toilet roll. I was stopped by several people who asked frantically where I had got it from before I made it back to the cover of my car. Having safely deposited my precious papery cargo and returned home. We did some painting – flowers and rainbows – and then I rang to check in with my parents. I wished Mum a Happy Mother’s Day and discussed my toilet paper adventure with my Dad. We also discussed how their toilet paper mountain (the mountain of toilet rolls they have had for as long as I can remember – nothing to do with COVID-19) was now likely to come in very handy indeed.
